Pas sept minutes : sept secondes. Le temps d&rsquo;encaisser un crochet, de r\u00e9pliquer, et de voir l&rsquo;arbitre sauter sur le combattant canadien. Ce genre de moment r\u00e9sume bien le Sud-Cor\u00e9en, n\u00e9 le 17 mars 1987 \u00e0 Pohang : un poids plume qui n&rsquo;a jamais cherch\u00e9 le combat propre, seulement le combat spectaculaire.<\/p>\n<h3>D&rsquo;o\u00f9 vient le surnom<\/h3>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0The Korean Zombie\u00a0\u00bb, c&rsquo;est tout sauf du marketing. Le surnom d\u00e9crit son style : il avance, encaisse, et revient comme si les coups ne l&rsquo;atteignaient pas. Cette capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 marcher dans le feu pour rendre la pareille a fait de lui un combattant culte bien avant ses titres de gloire \u00e0 l&rsquo;UFC.<\/p>\n<h3>Garcia, deux fois, et une soumission entr\u00e9e dans l&rsquo;histoire<\/h3>\n<p>Sa r\u00e9putation se construit face \u00e0 Leonard Garcia. Premier round en avril 2010 au WEC 48 : une guerre de trois reprises qu&rsquo;il perd sur d\u00e9cision partag\u00e9e, mais qui devient instantan\u00e9ment l&rsquo;un des combats les plus discut\u00e9s de l&rsquo;ann\u00e9e. Le rematch a lieu un an plus tard, le 26 mars 2011 \u00e0 l&rsquo;UFC Fight Night 24. Cette fois, Jung ne laisse pas la d\u00e9cision aux juges : il finit Garcia au deuxi\u00e8me round par un \u00ab\u00a0twister\u00a0\u00bb, une soumission emprunt\u00e9e au catalogue d&rsquo;Eddie Bravo. C&rsquo;\u00e9tait la premi\u00e8re fois qu&rsquo;un twister terminait un combat dans l&rsquo;histoire de l&rsquo;UFC. \u00c7a l&rsquo;est toujours.<\/p>\n<h3>Poirier, Aldo, et le sommet manqu\u00e9<\/h3>\n<p>En mai 2012, \u00e0 l&rsquo;UFC on Fuel TV 3, il soumet Dustin Poirier dans un combat \u00e9lu Combat de l&rsquo;ann\u00e9e par plusieurs m\u00e9dias. La r\u00e9compense logique tombe l&rsquo;ann\u00e9e suivante : une chance au titre poids plumes face \u00e0 Jos\u00e9 Aldo, le patron de la cat\u00e9gorie, le 3 ao\u00fbt 2013 \u00e0 l&rsquo;UFC 163. Jung tient t\u00eate au Br\u00e9silien mais s&rsquo;incline par TKO au quatri\u00e8me round, g\u00ean\u00e9 par une \u00e9paule bless\u00e9e. Son premier vrai sommet lui \u00e9chappe.<\/p>\n<h3>L&rsquo;arm\u00e9e, le retour, et un nouveau mur<\/h3>\n<p>S&rsquo;ensuit une longue pause : Jung effectue son service militaire obligatoire entre 2014 et 2016, comme tout citoyen sud-cor\u00e9en. Il revient au plus haut niveau mais bute sur les meilleurs de sa g\u00e9n\u00e9ration. En octobre 2020, Brian Ortega le domine sur les cinq rounds (50-45 aux trois juges). Puis, le 9 avril 2022 \u00e0 l&rsquo;UFC 273, il tente sa deuxi\u00e8me ceinture face \u00e0 Alexander Volkanovski : marqu\u00e9 et essouffl\u00e9 apr\u00e8s trois reprises, il est stopp\u00e9 par TKO au d\u00e9but du quatri\u00e8me round.<\/p>\n<h3>La sortie<\/h3>\n<p>Le dernier acte se joue en ao\u00fbt 2023, en main event d&rsquo;un UFC Fight Night, contre Max Holloway. Jung est mis KO au troisi\u00e8me round et raccroche les gants dans la cage, dans la foul\u00e9e. Son explication tient en une phrase : il ne voulait pas finir class\u00e9 troisi\u00e8me, quatri\u00e8me ou cinqui\u00e8me. Tout ou rien, jusqu&rsquo;au bout.<\/p>\n<p>En Cor\u00e9e du Sud, il reste l&rsquo;un des plus grands noms du MMA. Ses combats majeurs passaient \u00e0 la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision nationale et son nom a port\u00e9 le sport bien au-del\u00e0 du cercle des initi\u00e9s.
